As Oman heads into the season of increased weather unpredictability, we must emphasize the importance of preparedness to ensure the safety of employees, the continuity of operations, and the protection of assets. Fluctuating weather patterns, such as heavy rainfall, high winds, and sudden temperature shifts, can pose significant challenges to day-to-day operations. By implementing effective risk assessments, emergency response plans, and safety measures, we can minimize potential impacts and foster a resilient, safety-focused culture.

To effectively prepare for unpredictable weather, we should establish a comprehensive safety framework that includes the following elements

Avoid Shortcuts: Do not take shortcuts or ignore weather alerts. avoid crossing
wadis or commencing trips in areas experiencing heavy rain.
1.Conduct Risk Assessments: Perform the risk assessment, considering factors like fog, reduced visibility, slippery roads, lightning, and wadi conditions. Apply Safe Work Authority (SWA) if any unsafe acts or conditions are observed.
2.Stay Prepared: Personnel working in remote areas should carry adequatesupplies, including food and water. Regularly report your location to your directsupervisor.
3.Review Emergency Protocols: Ensure your crew is familiar with the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and emergency contact numbers.
4.Cease Unsafe Activities: Stop any work that could be impacted by weather conditions, such as lifting, slinging, or working at heights and electrical works.
5. Protect Electrical Equipment: Ensure all electrical equipment, connections, and terminals are adequately protected from water exposure.
6. Be Aware of Flooding Risks: Stay informed about potential flooding in your area and share real-time updates on wadis with the Adam/Fahud /Nizwa JM team, who will relay alerts to other relevant areas.
7. Monitor Weather Updates: Stay informed of weather conditions through the Oman Civil Aviation Authority, Client.
8. Assess City Conditions: In urban areas, evaluate road conditions and be aware of traffic and potential flooding. Avoid unnecessary driving risks.

In addition to this, we must take following proactive steps to ensure the safety of our employees and assets during unpredictable weather conditions:
1.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ensure that appropriate PPE is available for all workers, especially in outdoor environments. This includes non-slip footwear, and safety helmets.

  1. Site Management: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of worksites to reduce hazards. Ensure effective drainage systems to manage water buildup, reduce flooding risks, and address leakages and potential fall objects with necessary control measures.
  2. Transportation Safety: Develop protocols for transportation during adverse weather conditions, including guidelines for travel restrictions and safe driving practices.
